Jawed Habib
About Jawed

It was said that Lord Mountbatten, the last viceroy of British India, used to bow to only two people in his life. One was the British Queen - Queen Elizabeth. That's no surprise. The second person was none other than Jawed's grandfather Nazir Ahmed, a renonwed hair stylist of his time. Another prized client was India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Born into the family profession about a hundred years ago in a tiny hamlet in Uttar Pradesh, Nazir Ahmed had set his eyes away from his ancestral vocation and towards Delhi. But luck led him to the Viceroy House. This brought him close to the VVIP’s of his time.

Nazir Ahmed convinced Lord Mountbatten to write a letter to the Indian government, which was strapped for foreign exchange, to let his son Habib Ahmed travel and study overseas. England equipped Habib Ahmed, and later Jawed, with international skills enabling the creation of hair & beauty empires. He realized early the need to evolve his own styles and patterns and develop his own expertise to meet the aspirations of the emerging India.

Many years later Habib Ahmed went overseas again to add to his skills. Successful and keen now he expressed his desire, and got, to do Smt. Indira Gandhi’s hairdo. The high point in his career was when he set out on his own at the erstwhile Lodhi Hotel (near Delhi’s Oberoi Hotel) on his own. By now Mr. Habib was a matter of discussion in relevant circles.
